Marine Stewardship Area
The MRC is proposing to make San Juan County a Marine Stewardship
Area, increasing community awareness and participation in the
management of local marine resources.
Bottomfish Recovery Program
(BFRP)
In response to declining bottomfish populations, the MRC launched
an initiative to restore historic levels through research, education
and the establishment of Bottomfish Recovery Zones.
Northwest Straits Commission
Benchmarks
Multiple proposals initiated by the MRC to address the benchmarks
referenced in the NW Straits Initiative.
Transborder Initiatives
to coordinate local efforst to increase public awareness of the
state of the marine resources and spark action to protect and
sustain these resources.
Foragefish Project
San Juan County forage fish provide needed nourishment for marine
mammals, sea birds and migrating salmon. The MRC is working with
Friends of the San Juans to protect forage fish habitat.
