Shoreline Access Guide

Project Overview

The rich waters of San Juan County make this a special place to visit and a special place to live. The MRC plans to develop a guidebook, aimed at helping residents and visitors understand what to do, where to go, and how to best enjoy the marine life in and around these islands. The project, modeled after a similar effort by the Island County MRC and which produced a guidebook titled "Getting to the Water's Edge", will combine practical information on how to find and enjoy some of the special places on the islands, and information on the marine life that people will see.

The guidebook will initially be developed as an online guide, with the potential for subsequent efforts for a print edition. The online guide will include site descriptions, interactive maps, stewardship guidance, links to additional resources, along with interesting and engaging wildlife photography and essays. The project will engage community volunteers and local organizations to provide the research and materials in developing this book.

We hope this book will encourage people to participate in and enjoy the beauty and diversity of these islands, and motivate them to help preserve those treasures.
